First aid is a skill for life and mandatory within the RAF Air Cadets. All cadets are expected to have completed a basic HeartStart first aid course within 12 months of joining. We have staff within the squadron who are qualified to teach and First Aid training can be done during regular parade nights.
Cadets can go on to to do more advanced first aid training, potentially qualifying as first aid instructors themselves.
Most cadets will only use their first aid skills treat minor cuts and bumps, whilst other cadets have gone on to save lives. It’s worth remembering that as you tend to spend the most time with your friends and family, its likely the person who needs your help is going to be somebody you know and care about. One thing is clear, those who have gone on to use their skills in real life have been glad of the training.
