about us

We want the mathematical genius – there is work for him. We want the literary genius – there is work for him, especially in my office. We want the scientific brain – there is more than enough work for him. We want the man of brains and we want the man of common sense and little brain. We want the man of initiative and the man of action, the methodical man and even the crank. We open our ranks widely to all. – Air Marshall Trenchard

Welcome to 457 Squadron (Farnborough)

Part of the RAF Air Cadets, we are a military themed youth organisation sponsored and supported by the Royal Air Force.

We take part in adventure training activities such as hiking, kayaking, climbing & the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Additionally, we also take part in a wide range of military themed activities such as Drill, shooting, flying, fieldcraft and leadership training.

We welcome new cadets from the ages of 12 and in year 8 at school up to 16 years old. Existing cadets can stay as a cadet until their 20th birthday. Many do and later choose to stay on as adult instructors! We also welcome adult volunteers of any age in either uniformed or non-uniformed roles. No previous military service is required and training is provided.

We parade Monday and Thursday evenings from 19:00 to 21:30, only closing over Christmas. Costs are £12.50 per month and blue uniform is issued free of charge courtesy of the RAF. The only item of Blue uniform you will need to provide is shoes.

Ready for an adventure? Then get in contact or pop along to a parade evening to talk to our brilliant volunteer adult instructors.
